Set the style, mood, instruments, and vocals

Describe the sound you want and adjust how your references guide it.

Use Style in Custom, or the description in Idea, to explain how you want a song to sound.

Describe the musical direction

Include the details that matter most: genre, mood, pace, instruments, production, and vocal character. For example:

Gentle acoustic folk, fingerpicked guitar, soft percussion, intimate vocals, and a spacious chorus.

In Custom, you can select suggested Style tags or write your own description. Remove conflicting instructions before generating.

Custom mode and the Style field for musical direction.

Describe the overall sound and individual sections

In Custom, put the words to sing in Lyrics and the overall genre, mood and instruments in Style. You can also add short performance directions to section tags in Lyrics, such as [Verse - Soft, breathy vocals] or [Chorus - Raspy vocals, guitar enters]. Keep these directions inside the tags, separate from the sung lines. Listen to the result to check how the model interprets them.

Use Advanced in Custom

Open Advanced to adjust the influence controls:

  • Style influence changes how closely the written Style direction shapes the result.
  • Audio influence, shown when a reference is present, changes how much the source audio or melody guides the new song.

Try one adjustment at a time, then compare the new result with your earlier version. An influence value is not a guarantee that the same percentage of notes or audio will be preserved.

How do I choose vocals?

Describe the vocal character in Style, such as a soft lead vocal or an energetic group chorus. There is no separate male/female vocal picker. Describing vocals also does not select or clone a specific singer.

For an instrumental, follow the instrumental guidance. A requested instrument, tempo, or vocal trait is a direction for generation, so listen back to check the result.

Controls depend on the model

The Style influence and Audio influence guidance above describes the ACEMusic workflow. ACE-Step has a different set of Advanced options. Use the controls shown for the selected model; do not assume the same settings have the same effect across models.

ACE-Step Standard creates a new song from text. With one song attached, Cover creates a new version and Edit rewrites a selected section. Cover supports Cover strength, Remix strength and Key; Edit requires a waveform selection. Standard’s duration, tempo and time-signature controls do not apply to Cover or Edit. Melody and score references, and Mashup, use ACE Music v1.1 Preview.

Advanced settings by model

  • ACE Music v1: In Custom with no reference attached and the Songwriting Assistant closed, Duration and Negative styles are available. These options do not apply after switching to ACE Music v1.1 Preview for a reference.
  • ACE-Step Standard: Set Duration, Tempo, Time signature and Key, or leave them on Auto for the model to decide. Negative styles describes styles to avoid; the Thinking control adjusts the strength of the model’s planning.
  • ACE-Step Cover: Cover strength and Remix strength adjust the relationship to the source; Key sets a target key. Change one control at a time and listen back. Values are not exact preservation percentages.
  • ACE-Step Edit: Select the time range to rewrite. Standard’s whole-song duration, tempo and time-signature controls are not available here.
