Upload audio and use it to create music
Add an audio file or reuse audio already in Library.
Use an audio upload when you already have a recording on your device. You can also reuse an existing Library item without uploading the same file again.
Add a file
- In Idea, open + and choose Audio file. In Custom, open Audio and choose Audio file.
- Select your file and confirm it in the upload window if prompted. You can also drag an audio file onto the workspace.
- Watch the Library entry and reference for upload and reading progress.
- Review the reference, add your musical direction, and generate.
Use the file picker and any validation messages to check whether your file is accepted. A filename extension alone does not guarantee that an audio file can be decoded or read.

Use existing audio
Open the same menu and choose From library, then select your audio. A song's Use in Create menu also offers ways to reuse it.
Uploading is not the final step
The file first transfers to ACE Music, then its musical content may need to be read. A completed upload progress bar does not mean the reference is ready. Generation can wait for this preparation.
Uploaded audio appears in Library; the song made from it is a separate result. If the file uploads but cannot be interpreted, see reference recognition problems. For transfer problems, see slow or failed uploads.
Check the selected model
Melody and score references use ACE Music v1.1 Preview. Create can switch to this model when you add a reference that requires it; check the model name and generation cost before you generate.
Use a song with ACE-Step
- Select ACE-Step in Create and open Custom.
- Add one song through Audio, or choose From library. Use source audio no longer than 8 minutes and wait for it to be available.
- Choose Cover to generate a new version in another style, or Edit to rewrite a section. For Edit, select a start and end on the waveform before generating.
- Review Style and Lyrics. Your lyrics take priority; if you leave them empty, the source song’s available lyrics may be used. For Cover, Cover strength controls how closely the generation follows the source.
- Select Generate and review the new results in Library. The original song is not overwritten.
Cover and Edit use the song’s audio; they are different from editing notes in a melody or score. Edit targets the selected section, but listen to the full result rather than assuming a sample-exact edit. ACE-Step does not combine multiple songs as a Mashup.
Check the model picker in Create. ACE-Step supports text-based generation and working from a song’s audio without spending Credits. Melody and score inputs use ACE Music v1.1 Preview. In Idea, adding a song does not by itself always switch the model: describe whether you want to keep its melody or use its style as inspiration. When a workflow needs ACE Music v1.1 Preview, Create can switch models and show a notice. Review the selected model and generation cost. ACE-Step does not support Mashup or read melody and score references.

Advanced controls for ACE-Step Cover
Open Advanced in ACE-Step Cover to adjust Cover strength, Remix strength and Key. The first two controls adjust the new version’s relationship to the source; Key sets a target key. Change one control at a time and compare the results. They do not specify an exact percentage of notes or audio to preserve. Standard’s duration, tempo and time-signature settings do not apply to Cover. Edit instead requires selecting a time range on the waveform.
