Can I trim a recording, re-record a section, or undo?

Understand which recording edits are available in the current capture panel.

The quick recording panel lets you listen to a take and replace it with a new recording. It does not provide a full waveform editor for trimming, silencing, or replacing just one section.

Record the whole take again

  1. Open the recording panel and stop your current take.
  2. Play it back to decide what you want to change.
  3. Choose Start over to clear that take.
  4. Record again, listen back, and choose Done when you want to use it.

Starting over replaces the current take. If you need to keep the original performance, keep your original audio file before replacing or editing it.

Can I trim or punch in a section?

The recording panel does not support trimming, silencing, or re-recording just one section. To make a precise audio edit, edit the original in your audio software and upload the edited file as a reference.

Can I change the notes instead?

If the recording has been read into a melody reference, open it in Custom's melody editor. You can edit notes and use Undo there. Those edits affect the musical reference used for generation; they do not cut or repair the source recording's waveform.

See piano-roll editing for note changes and audio uploads for using an externally edited recording.

Record into an existing melody

In the Songwriting Assistant, place the playhead where you want to record, choose the track, and start a microphone or keyboard recording. Recorded notes replace notes in the recorded time range on that track, rather than replacing the whole song. Listen back and use Undo if needed.

Microphone audio is converted to notes. Once recognition finishes, the temporary recording waveform is removed; it is not a separate audio track you can keep editing. This differs from the quick recording panel, where Start over replaces the take. Neither workflow edits the waveform of a finished song.
