Create an AI Cover
Use one song as a reference for a new musical version.
To make a cover with ACE Music v1.1 Preview, follow the steps below. ACE-Step also has a Cover mode for working from one song’s audio; its controls differ and are described in the ACE-Step section below.
Cover uses a single song reference to guide a new generation. It is useful when you want to take a song in another musical direction.
Make a cover
- In Idea, choose Cover a song and add your source, or open Custom and add it through Audio.
- In Custom, make sure the Audio section is set to Cover.
- Let the reference upload and finish any required reading.
- Describe the new direction in Idea, or review Lyrics and Style in Custom.
- Click Generate and listen to the new versions.
For a source already in Library, choose From library. From a shared song page, Make a cover of this can carry that song into the creation flow.

Control the relationship to the source
In Custom, Audio influence in Advanced controls how strongly the source guides the new song, while Style influence controls the written musical direction. These controls guide generation rather than providing an exact preservation percentage.
Check the Lyrics field when working in Custom. A referenced song can supply words for the cover when no replacement lyrics are provided; emptying the field is not a universal way to remove its vocals.
Cover generates a new performance. It does not promise the original voice, exact duration, or identical arrangement, and it is not a specific-singer voice-cloning control. For usage costs, see Credits usage.
Check the selected model
Melody and score references use ACE Music v1.1 Preview. Create can switch to this model when you add a reference that requires it; check the model name and generation cost before you generate. ACE-Step does not read these melody or score references.
Use a song with ACE-Step
- Select ACE-Step in Create and open Custom.
- Add one song through Audio, or choose From library. Use source audio no longer than 8 minutes and wait for it to be available.
- Choose Cover to generate a new version in another style, or Edit to rewrite a section. For Edit, select a start and end on the waveform before generating.
- Review Style and Lyrics. Your lyrics take priority; if you leave them empty, the source song’s available lyrics may be used. For Cover, Cover strength controls how closely the generation follows the source.
- Select Generate and review the new results in Library. The original song is not overwritten.
Cover and Edit use the song’s audio; they are different from editing notes in a melody or score. Edit targets the selected section, but listen to the full result rather than assuming a sample-exact edit. ACE-Step does not combine multiple songs as a Mashup.
Check the model picker in Create. ACE-Step supports text-based generation and working from a song’s audio without spending Credits. Melody and score inputs use ACE Music v1.1 Preview. In Idea, adding a song does not by itself always switch the model: describe whether you want to keep its melody or use its style as inspiration. When a workflow needs ACE Music v1.1 Preview, Create can switch models and show a notice. Review the selected model and generation cost. ACE-Step does not support Mashup or read melody and score references.
Adding vocals to an instrumental reference
In Custom Cover, you can supply your own words in Lyrics even when the source is instrumental. These lyrics can be sung in the new version. If you want an instrumental result, check that Lyrics contains no words to sing and that Style does not request vocals. An instrumental source alone does not guarantee an instrumental output; listen to the result.
Advanced controls for ACE-Step Cover
Open Advanced in ACE-Step Cover to adjust Cover strength, Remix strength and Key. The first two controls adjust the new version’s relationship to the source; Key sets a target key. Change one control at a time and compare the results. They do not specify an exact percentage of notes or audio to preserve. Standard’s duration, tempo and time-signature settings do not apply to Cover. Edit instead requires selecting a time range on the waveform.
Using images or videos too
In Idea, you can add an image or video alongside the song references to guide the topic, mood, words or style. The visual does not supply melody notes. Keep the original file: uploaded visual attachments are available for 24 hours and are not kept as reusable attachments in Library.
