Create a song from humming or a recording

Capture a melody with your microphone and use it as a reference.

Record a melody when it is easier to sing or hum it than to describe it in words.

Record your idea

  1. In Idea, choose Record your idea or the microphone control. In Custom, open Audio → Record. Record is unavailable while Custom is in Mashup mode.
  2. Allow microphone access when your browser asks.
  3. Start recording and hum, sing, or play your idea clearly.
  4. Stop recording and listen back.
  5. Choose Start over if you want another take, or Done to use this recording.
  6. Add a description of the song you want, then generate.

In first-time setup, choose Record a melody and use its recording option.

Get a clearer reference

Keep the melody audible and avoid loud background music or overlapping voices. A short, clear performance is more useful than a recording in which the melody is difficult to hear. You do not need a polished vocal performance.

The recording must upload and be read before it can guide the song. Follow any progress or error message shown on the reference.

What happens to my recording?

The recording becomes an audio input and creates a Library entry as it is processed. The generated song is a separate result. Its phrasing, arrangement, and timing may differ from your performance.

If you cannot record, check the browser's microphone permission and the selected input device. The quick recording panel supports a new whole take; see recording edits for the limits of partial editing.

Check the selected model

Melody and score references use ACE Music v1.1 Preview. Create can switch to this model when you add a reference that requires it; check the model name and generation cost before you generate. ACE-Step does not read these melody or score references.

Record into an existing melody

In the Songwriting Assistant, place the playhead where you want to record, choose the track, and start a microphone or keyboard recording. Recorded notes replace notes in the recorded time range on that track, rather than replacing the whole song. Listen back and use Undo if needed.

Microphone audio is converted to notes. Once recognition finishes, the temporary recording waveform is removed; it is not a separate audio track you can keep editing. This differs from the quick recording panel, where Start over replaces the take. Neither workflow edits the waveform of a finished song.
