A Complete Song from a Hummed Voice Memo

Start an audio-to-music project with a hummed phrase or voice memo. Prepare the reference in ACE Music and compare the new song with your idea.

An audio-to-music workflow helps you develop an idea that is easier to hum or play than describe. In ACE Music, record the phrase or upload a recording, add the musical direction, and generate a new song from that starting point. The useful comparison is between your original idea and its new interpretation, not between the output and an assumed exact copy.

Record the phrase you want to keep

Capture a recognizable melodic idea with a clear beginning and ending. You do not need a polished singing performance, but the notes should be audible without competing music or conversation.

Before uploading, listen once and identify the important element: the rise into the last note, a repeated rhythm, or a short hook. Write that observation down so you know what to listen for later.

Keep the original recording. It remains your reference even if you prefer a generated arrangement.

Add the recording in ACE Music

1. Choose a recording or an existing audio file

For a fresh take, open Create → Idea and choose Record your idea or the microphone control. Allow microphone access when prompted, record one clear phrase, then stop and play it back. Choose Start over for another take or Done to use the recording. Do not move on merely because recording started; confirm you captured the phrase you intended.

For a phone memo, open + → Audio file and choose the file. In Custom, the corresponding path is Audio → Audio file. Use From library for an audio source already uploaded rather than repeatedly uploading the same memo. Keep the original file for comparison.

2. Wait for the reference to become usable

Watch the reference card and Library for upload and analysis status. These are separate stages. A completed upload is not proof that the musical material has been recognized successfully. Resolve an error before generating, rather than assuming a longer prompt will repair a missing reference.

Before generating, check your audio reference and selected model. This example uses an audio reference in Idea and ACE Music v1.1 Preview.

3. Explain what the phrase should become

An original brief for the hummed example is:

Develop this hummed phrase into an intimate indie-pop song about taking the long way home after a difficult day. Use the rise at the end of the hook as a reference. Let the verse feel conversational and the chorus feel cautiously hopeful. Use soft electric piano, light drums, and clear vocals, without a crowded instrumental arrangement.

The request identifies the musical feature worth preserving and the new song's purpose. It is a hypothetical input, not a claim that a track has been generated or that the contour will be reproduced exactly. If you have approved words, prepare them separately in Lyrics in the appropriate Custom route.

4. Generate, then investigate the right stage

Select Generate, then find the new audio in Library. Compare the original phrase with the generated interpretation. If the route provides an editable melody view, inspect it before retrying; otherwise review the source recording and musical description. Keep the source and each result for comparison.

Listen to the same musical moment each time: the rising ending, repeated rhythm, or pause you identified before recording. This gives you a more useful decision than simply asking whether the production sounds polished. Keep the recording, input, and chosen result together so a later version remains traceable to the idea.

Audio from this actual run

For this real example we reused our original 10.6-second synthetic keyboard phrase through + → From library, attached it in Idea and entered the English brief below. This was not a microphone recording or a test of preserving a person’s voice. The two new songs interpret the reference; compare them with the source rather than assuming exact note preservation.

Find the previously uploaded original melody in From library and select it as the reference.

Develop this short keyboard melody into an intimate indie-pop song about taking the long way home after a difficult day. Treat the melodic contour as a starting point, not an exact transcription. Conversational English vocals, a cautiously hopeful chorus, soft electric piano and light drums with a spacious arrangement.

The source is attached in Idea beside the English song description, with ACE Music v1.1 Preview selected.

From melody to song: compare the idea and interpretation

Listen to the source phrase and the new song separately. Does the important contour remain recognizable? Did a changed rhythm improve the phrase or remove what you liked?

If the reference was interpreted incorrectly, inspect and correct the available melody reference before another generation. If the notes are suitable but the arrangement feels wrong, revise the musical brief instead.

Turn a voice memo into a song demo

A voice memo to song project may include a spoken introduction, background noise, and several unrelated ideas. Choose a clear excerpt in an appropriate editor before uploading when necessary. Do not expect the generation process to infer which abandoned take you meant to keep.

Add a sentence about the intended song: who is speaking, what the chorus should express, and how the music should feel. The memo supplies a starting idea, not the entire brief.

When you need closer melodic control

For humming to music, a new arrangement can be part of the appeal. If the task is instead to preserve specific pitches, durations, and lyric alignment, work with an editable melody or use ACE Studio's note-based vocal-production route.

An audio-to-song result is newly generated music. If you need to keep the original backing unchanged while adding a new singer, use a separate layered production workflow.

Start your audio-to-music project in ACE Music with one clear phrase and a note about why that phrase matters.

Questions about recording an idea into a song

Do I need to sing well?

A polished performance is not the starting requirement. Aim for an audible phrase with a recognizable pitch and rhythm, without competing conversation or music obscuring it.

Why is an uploaded memo not ready immediately?

Uploading the file and analyzing its musical content are separate steps. Check the reference status before submitting another generation or adding the same source again.

Will the generated song keep my original voice?

Do not assume that. Here the recording supplies creative reference material. Preserving a particular recorded performance or using an authorized voice clone is a different production task.
